Well, seems there was a shake-up at Marietta Publishing. The publisher has decided to cut loose all of his anthologies and concentrate on novels and single author collections only. That's good for our boy C.J., who has a number of titles with Marietta. But, he was also in a great number of their anthologies as well. The answer? A big part of it has come in the form of Dark Quest Books which signed up a number of the former publisher's series basically the second they became available. And, why wouldn't they? After all, the award-winning Defending the Future series got off to a great start with Breach the Hull. Now, that terrific package is about to be followed by the second book in the series, So It Begins, an absolutely smashing sequel, the contributors to which are some of the biggest names in military science fiction.

Those who read science fiction, military and otherwise, will recognize such names as Jack Campbell ("The Lost Fleet series"), David Sherman ("Demon Tech," "Jedi Trial," "Star Fist"), John C. Wright ("Chronicles of Chaos"), Bud Sparhawk (3 time Nebula Finalist), Charles E. Gannon, and Andy Remic ("Combat K"). Added to their ranks are some very promising newcomers to the genre: Jonathan Maberry ("The Deep Pines Trilogy"), Jeffrey Lyman, James Chambers, Mike McPhail, Tony Ruggiero ("Team of Darkness"), Patrick Thomas ("Murphy's Lore"), James Daniel Ross, and Danielle Ackley-McPhail (“The Eternal Cycle”). Add our boy C.J. to the mix, and what a winner!

"So It Begins has been over a year in the making," says editor Mike McPhail. "We faced both old and new challenges in order to bring these original works of some of the leading (and up and coming) military science fiction authors to press. I'm honored that they have once again put their faith in us."

Dark Quest has plans to re-release Breach the Hull sometime in late 2009 or early 2010. A third book, By Other Means, is tentatively planned to follow in the series.

For those who loved CJ's work on Kolchak: The Nightstalker/The Lovecraftian Horror, our boy has another widevision novel in the works. This time he's doing a tale of the pulp hero, the Spider: The Master of Men, and as you can see from the attached samples, this one is looking good!

Hey, gang--just an update. Remember that new Lai Wan comic story we told you was coming, that we showed you some of the black and white artwork for a while back? Well, all the art is done, and it's been colored. Don't know exactly when it'll be in the stores, but until then, here's another preview. This time, in color--TaDa!!

January 11, 2009

Hey, all you CJ fans in New Jersey, our boy is going to be there doing a lecture/writer's workshop gig that is accompanied by a classic movie presentation a great pulp display and who knows what else. Check out the poster below for the show, and get over there and help support the arts! Woo!

Wondering what the sketches below are all about? They're the first submissions from artist Mike Harris (Spider-Man, the Punisher) for the cover to the new Jack Hagee short story collection which will be coming from Marietta Publishing later this year. They've had such success with What You Pay For, the first collection of Hagee stories, that they've decided to collect all the rest of them and put them out in a companion volume. We don't know when exactly it's coming, and we know CJ hasn't finished all the new stories he wants to include in the volume, but as always, we'll keep you posted.

SYNOPSIS:
In the near future, the population of the Earth has lumbered past the ten billion mark. Most of the planet's natural resources are dwindling or gone. The only thing keeping the ever-increasing masses of Earth alive are the vast food vats of Mars and the mining operations of the asteroid belts. But, the promised rewards for those who thirty years previous went to the stars to save humanity have never materialized. Instead of a new world to homestead, the colonists have been turned into virtual slaves by Red Planet, Inc., the corporation granted the charter to develop Mars.

Now, cheated, lied to, with no hope in sight, the Martian colony has begun to boil with talk of strikes and revolution. A stop in production would mean riots and chaos on Earth, billions dead in a matter of weeks. It would mean war, plague and famine at levels never before known. Into this most explosive political situation is thrust Benton Hawkes, the most trusted diplomatic negotiator alive. All sides agree, he the only man to be trusted to avert a catastrophe which could bring destruction to the entire solar system.

But, bitter reasons of his own, Hawkes wants nothing to do with Mars. And, on top of that, there are those who don't want to see the situation calmed, and who will do nothing to stop Hawkes from interfering with their plans.

Yes, we've mentioned this book was coming, even shown you interior artwork. Well, at long last, Partners In Crime is a reality. There was a lot of trouble with the cover, artists just not being able to figure out how to depict a ten character thriller. But, as you can see, they finally got it right. The book stars such pulp and film favorites as Johnny Dollar, Boston Blackie, Candy Madsen, Mr. Moto, Pat Novak, Blackshirt, Mr. Keen and Kolchak: the Nightstalker, along with CJ's own private eye Jack Hagee, and the Teddy London series' breakout star, Lai Wan: the Dreamwalker. Co-written with Moonstone chief Joe Gentile, this one is a wild supernatural noir thriller that is simply pure pulp fun. Coming soon!

A little more news on the Shatner project, "Man O'War." The website Jazma Online has just posted an interview with our boy CJ, concerning not only the specific comic project, but other interesting tidbits as well about his career and the such. Check it out at:

We know you have to be wondering what our boy CJ has to do with "William Shatner Presents." As some of you might know, CJ helped Mr. Shatner write his "Man O'War" series a number of years back. Well, now those books along with all of Mr. Shatner's other properties have been licensed by the wonderful folks at Blue Water, and CJ has been brought on board to both turn the original novels in a set of comic mini-series, and then to continue the story on from that point. The cover pictured here is for the "Free Comic Day" give-away intended to introduce all the books to the public. Be sure to pick one up to check out five pages each for all these new Shatner titles, especially the ones done by you know who.

December 15 , 2008

Well, for those of you that thought our boy C.J. had given up on doing hardboiled fiction after his recent spate of comedies, think again, gang. Coming out soon will be the collection "Deadly Dames," which features not only a beautiful Robert McGuire cover, but our C.J. along with some of the biggest names in the genre: Max Allan Collins, Vin Packer, Ed Gorman and a host of others. There's a whole bunch of hardboiled coming from our boy in the next few months. A lot of things have been held up for one publishing reason or another, but the dam is finally ready to burst.

November 19 , 2008

At long last, the giant-sized noir team-up, Partners in Crime, that our boy CJ did for Moonstone is finally on its way to press. For those who haven't heard about it, it features ten classic characters in one big novel-length adventure. The story features Boston Blackie, Johnny Dollar, Candy Matsen, Mr. Moto, Pat Novak, Blackshirt,
Mr. Keen, Kolchak: the Nightstalker, and CJ's own Jack Hagee and Lai Wan. It's a mythos mystery than spans sixty years and promises to be great fun. Of course, it wouldn't be a Mighty Moonstone production without illustrations, so we've pulled a few from the book to show you. Enjoy.

November 18 , 2008

Hey, just to let you know, our boy CJ has sold another story to Space and Time Magazine. The story is "The Mambo King of the Inter-Dimensional Dance Floor," and it's the latest installment in CJ's popular Wezleski series of sci fi comedy misadventures. Even better news, the rumor is the cover for that issue will be based on CJ's story, and be done by none other that Ben Fogletto! Good choice, if it's true. It probably is, though. Going into its 43rd year in '09, Space and Time is one of the classic places to be seen these days. In fact, if you'd like to check it out for yourself, just jump over to www.spaceandtime magazine.com. Tell them the wiseguys running www.cjhenderson.com sent you.

November 15 , 2008

Well, here's some good news for fans of CJ's Tales of the Roosevelt series, or as most people call them, "the Rocky & Noodles stories." Our boy has just sold a third story featuring the singing and dancing space sailors. This one is called "Everything's Better With Monkeys," and will appear in the upcoming volume, "So It Begins." Word from the publisher is that if all works out as planned, they will be launching it at next year's Lunacon, which is March 20th through the 22nd, in Rye Brook, NY, www.lunacon.org. If that venue isn't able to accommodate the publisher's needs, however, then it will premier at Ravencon in Richmond, VA (April 24-26) www.ravencon.com. Either way, that means more Rocky & Noodles for everyone.

November 10 , 2008

Okay, so we haven't had a lot of CJ news lately. Here's something nearly as good. Those who get a lot of the collections our boy ends up in will be familiar with the name Danielle Ackley McPhail. She's one of the best editors CJ has worked with, and her work has been in most of those same books. She's definitely got the goods, so you all ought to at least follow the links and see what's going on. Especially all of you that are going to be at PhilCon anyway to see CJ.

Anyone who was thinking of attending AstronomiCon in November to see our boy CJ had better rethink their plans. No, CJ isn't sick, and he didn't bail on the fine folks putting on the show. The problem is, the show isn't going to be there. So, if you were thinking of going to AstronomiCon for any reason, you might want to wait for next year. On the other hand, CJ has a replacement con, and some other new ones for this year posted as well, so check it out.

August 20 , 2008

Well, looks like we got that last announcement up too soon. It appears another anthology CJ was in took the silver in the same category in which his other anthology appearance from last year took the gold. Now, even we're not so full of ourselves here that we'd suggest if was all to CJ's credit that these books did so well, but we're certainly smug enough to think he helped.

Of course, our congratulations go out to all the other contributors in both books. Good work on everyone's part, obviously. We just can't help being partial to our home town boy. Hey, can you blame us?

August 19, 2008

Well, here's a little bit of news. For those of you who have seen "Breach the Hull," the anthology of sci fi military stories that introduced our boy CJ's new comedy characters Rocky & Noodles, along with the rest of the crazed crew of the U.S.S. Roosevelt, has just received the 2007 Dream Realm Award in the Anthology Category! Below is a shot of the award, and for those who would like a complete list of the winners in all the catagories, there is the following link:
http://www.dream-realm-awards.net/DRA2007.html

Now, if we could just figure out how to get our boy a Hugo.

August 16, 2008

While Moonstone continues to work on the big Lai Wan graphic novel, just to keep folks from getting sore waiting for more of CJ's breakout character from the Teddy London universe, they had our boy work up a six pager for the back of their new hit, the revival of the old Captain Action series. Well, you know us, we can't keep anything around here for long without showing it off. So, here's some of the preliminary pencils from the new Lai Wan story. Enjoy!

July 18, 2008

Flash! A number of things featuring our boy C.J. have just come back into print. Missing in action for one reason or another, we are quite pleased to be able to announce the return of the following:

KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER--THE LOVECRAFTIAN HORROR ... Yes, it’s just what you think it is. TV’s original supernatural investigator first full scale run in with the Lovecraft mythos. Told in the super-nifty new format--widevision! The reason it’s just now coming back into print? The first print run, one the publisher thought would give them copies enough to last for years, sold out in two months! Let’s hope this time they printed a bunch, because they’re already flying out the doors.

HEAR THEM ROAR ... This collection of mixed genre stories did have a unifying theme--all the stories centered around strong, independent female characters. The first publisher, however, was something of a, well, er, "special" kind of person, and only managed to publish a few hundred copies before he had to go to his, well, er, "special" place. Now, a new, not-so-special, but far more reliable publisher is in place, and the book is back. It features two C.J. tales. One is a Lai Wan story, the other the first new short story told in his sword & sorcery universe in a number of years. Even bigger news, this volume will be followed by HEAR THEM ROAR: DARK FURIES later this year, bringing that fine, similarly-themed volume back into print, and then the all new HEAR THEM ROAR: SIRENS early next spring.

WARFEAR ... Here’s another collection that suffered a few indignities when first released. Well, long story short, all of its problems have been corrected and it’s back now with a brand new Ben Fogletto cover and a total of five C.J. stories. The wonderful world of weird war tales has never looked better.

And now, the biggest news of all!

For some time here at the website we’ve been promising the return of THE STENCH OF FRESH AIR, the second volume in the Teddy London series. We won’t go into the long list of publishing woes that stalled this book repeatedly, but at long last--finally--it’s here. And that means that yes, C.J.’s most popular series is up and running once more. You see, this doesn’t simply mean that the second book is in print once more. This means that the log jam has been cleared and that all the remaining Londons will now be going into print one after another, including two, never-before-seen novels written especially for this third release of the series.

This is some of the biggest news ever for C.J. Henderson fans, and although it’s been a long time in coming, certainly longer than we here at the website or C.J. himself would have liked it, the wait is over!

Huzzah!!

July 16 , 2008

Wow--when it rains, it pours. New C.J. material is suddenly everywhere. We’ll try to keep this one brief, because we know once you see what’s available, you’re going to want to run to your paypal account and start throwing money around like a drunken sailor.

SPACE PIRATES ... Speaking of drunken sailors, the first adventure C.J. typed up of Rocky and Noodles and the rest of the crew of the U.S.S. Roosevelt, "Shore Leave," for the collection "Breech the Hull," went over with such fanfare he was immediately asked to do another. It’s called "Space Pirate Cookies," and this eagerly awaited collection is now available.

BAD-ASSED FAERIES: JUST PLAIN BAD ... We’ve talked about this one so much, all we’re going to say is, if you liked the first book, you’ll have to like this one. C.J.’s tale this time around features Prof. Goward and Morcey from the Teddy London series, Marv Richards from his Challenge of the Unknown stories, and his wretchedly depraved storyteller Darby. They all meet in the Narkane, and it’s ... well, that would be telling. This is one of C.J.’s comedies, and it comes in the center of a terrific follow-up to another great collection.

BORIS VALLEJO & JULIE BELL’S FANTASY CALENDAR 2009 ... For those who didn’t know about this, back in 2000 C.J. took over doing the story that connected the art for the Boris & Julie calendar. The first twenty years of this project had been handled by Philip Jose Farmer. Now, this ‘09 calendar marks C.J.’s tenth teaming with this incredible art team. We don’t have them for sale here (hey, we can’t sell everything), but it’s another fine addition to this great series. If you don’t have your calendar for next year, we’re sure there’s a copy left out there somewhere with your name on it!

TO BATTLE BEYOND ... Okay, we admit it. C.J.’s fantastic new novel featuring the return of H.P. Lovecraft’s Inspector Legrasse, teaming him with legendary pulp characters the Black Bat and the Domino Lady has been out for a while now. We got a little slow and sloppy here, and we apologize. But, it’s here now, in the store, on the shelves, and the way praise for this over-the-top action mythos epic has come rolling in, we’re sure you’re going to want to order your signed copy right away.

DEGREES OF FEAR & OTHERS ... twenty great C.J. stories, eight stupendous Ben Fogletto illustrations. This is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the best collection of all-C.J. work ever compiled. It features eighteen of his all time best stories, joined by his first new H.P. Lovecraft’s Herbert West: Reanimator yarn in some fifteen years, and the first ever of his Piers Knight tales. Who is this Knight character, you ask? For those that don’t know, C.J. is writing a new series for Tor. The first of the novels comes out in July of ‘09, but the first story featuring this character is out now, in this incredible package. If there was ever a must have C.J. Henderson volume, this one is it!

July 14 , 2008

Well, here it is, the final version of the front and back covers to Degrees of Fear. Dark Regions has really done a great job getting this book together. Eighteen classic CJ stories, two new ones, and eight new Ben Fogletto illustrations ... man'o'days, we can't wait to see this one on the shelves!

June 30 , 2008

Here we go, one more licensed character for CJ's ever growing list. So far over the years, he has handled Batman, Boston Blackie, Mr. Moto, Kolchak: the Nightstalker, Archie, Johnny Dollar, the Punisher, Hercules, the Avenger, the Domino Lady, H.P. Lovecraft's Inspector Legrasse, the Black Bat, Hellraiser, Neil Gaiman's Lady Justice, Lin Carter's Anton Zarnak, the Cisco Kid and a host of others. Adding Zorro to his list, however, is something CJ considers an event.

"Hey," he told us, "I'm just old enough to have grown up watching Zorro on TV. Guy Williams was my hero. This is one book I'm really happy to be in."

We're happy he's there, too.

June 20 , 2008

After an absence from the scene of well over a year, Hear Them Roar is back in print. The book had to be pulled from its original publisher, but it's back now, and there's more. Of course we're excited here because our boy CJ has two stories in it, but this time around, the volume is not a stand-alone book. There was such a demand for it's return, as well as the return of the Die, Monster, Die publication, Dark Furies, that the editors got together with Roar's new publisher and created a series.

That's right. Hear Them Roar is back in print now, but it will be followed later this year by Hear Them Roar: Dark Furies. Then, early next year, a new anthology, Hear Them Roar: Sirens, will premier. Our CJ has two stories in Dark Furies, one of them his critically acclaimed comedy, Bring More. Will he land two slots in Sirens as well? Only time will tell.

April 22 , 2008

Well, you know Bad-Ass Faeries must be a good book because, here it is less than a year later and, the publisher and his editor have put out another book in the series, appropriately entitled Bad-Ass Faeries 2. Of course, we wouldn't be nearly as excited here if it weren't for the fact that once again they've decided to include a story by our boy CJ. Unlike the drama he turned in last time, for this volume he did a comedy, and he brought in characters from three different series. Paul Morcey and Prof. Goward are there from the London books, Marv Richards shows up from the Challenge of the Unknown series, and then there at center stage is Darby, his disreputable storyteller that none of his other series will claim as their own. And, best yet, the whole thing takes place in his nexus-of-all-dimensions tavern, the Narkane! This one was so much fun to read we can't wait to see the whole book.

April 18 , 2008

Here's an announcement that we're just going to put straight up as it came in. We loved CJ's story in the first one, and this one, though nothing like that first "fairy tale" by our boy, made us laugh out loud. But, enough of our shilling for our favorite son. Here's the latest straight from:

April 12 , 2008

Here it is, the cover to the new anthology "Space Pirates." This one will be coming out later this year (fingers crossed for August). The big news for CJ fans? His story in this one is another tale of Rocky and Noodles and the rest of the crew of the Roosevelt. His first sequel to his very well received story from "Breech the Hull," "Shore Leave," he promises more big yuks as he fleshes out his latest universe.

April 08 , 2008

Another sneak peak of some upcoming artwork. This one is the cover for Bad-Ass Faeries 2, which like the original Bad-Ass Faeries has a terrific story by our boy CJ. This one is a return to the Narkane, his wacky tavern at the crossroads of the universe. Wanting to truly mix things up, he's got Marv Richards from the Challenge of the Unknown series, Professor Goward and Paul Morcey from the Teddy London series and Darby, who well, as steady readers know, is in a world of his own. It looks like a bigger and better book than the last one. For those who want more details, especially on the big launch party for the book down at BaltiCon and the swell door prize the editors have cooked up go to www.sidhenadaire.com/ books/BAF2.htm for book details, and for launch details to www.sidhenadaire.com/promoBAF2.htm.
What will our boy get himself into next?

Mar 26 , 2008

Well, here we go, it's a big sneak peak at some of the artwork for the Dark Regions Press limited edition, signed & numbered, slip-cased, dust-jacketed collection of CJ Henderson stories. This package just looks like it's going to be something. Not only all this great Ben Fogletto artwork, but 18 classic CJ tales, with the bonus of a brand new Herbert West Reanimator story, and a tale featuring Professor Piers Knight, our boy CJ's new character that he's developing for Tor. This story, "An Excess of Joy" will be the first appearance of the professor anywhere. We're really looking forward to this book here. For now, though, we'll all just have to make due with Ben's great art!

Mar 24 , 2008

It's official---editor/publisher William Jones of Elder Signs Press has just made the announcement, the second Teddy London novel, The Stench of Fresh Air will be available no later than July of this year. It's been a while, but it's on its way at last. And, the bigger news, it should be closely followed by the new, never-before-seen London novel, The Sleep That Rescues! All we can say here is, this is going to be one great big year for us CJ fans.

Mar 22 , 2008

Well, it appears that Degrees of Fear, the fancy limited edition hardback of our boy CJ's stories is moving right along. The illustration below is an ad being placed in the next issue of Space And Time Magazine. Of course, it will be in color when it's the cover of the book, but it sure makes a great ad. Checking things at www.darkregions.com will tell you more, especially as time goes by. We're just excited now.

Mar 10 , 2008

Just a quick one. We were able to tease you with the cover art for this one a number of months back. Well, Permuted Press tells us this is the final version of one of the latest collections to feature our boy CJ. Looks like fun to us.

Mar 7 , 2008

Hey, Hey---here it is, the first exclusive peek at the cover art for the Dark Regions limited edition hardback collection of our boy CJ's stuff. The book is to be called: Degrees of Fear & Others, and the cover is by CJ's long-time favorite cover artist, Battlin' Ben Fogletto. The book should be ready in another six weeks, but for now, enjoy the art!

That book we mentioned a while back that was coming out from Dark Regions Press that spotlights our own CJ ... well now it has a name. The title will be "Degrees of Fear & Others." It will feature 20 stories by CJ, eighteen of his classics and two new stories. And, better yet, one of those stories will feature his new character Professor Piers Knight, created for his new series at Tor. That means "Degrees" will be the first ever appearance of Knight. Now, if that weren't enough, the book is, as reported, being illustrated by fantasy/horror artist supreme, Battlin' Ben Fogletto. And just to prove it, here are two of the book's illustrations. This is one book the bunch of us here simply can not wait to see!

Magazine time. The cover shown here for the new issue of the peerless science fiction/fantasy/horror chronicle "Space and Time" says it all. There in big black letters it proclaims our boy as their lead author for their latest issue. The story is one not seen in this country, "The Death of Maal Dweb," a sequel CJ wrote to the two Maal Dweb stories written by the immortal Clark Ashton Smith. The issue won’t be on sale here at the website, but if you want to check out the magazine, head on over to www.SpaceAnd TimeMagazine.com. Tell ‘em we sent ya!

And speaking of Teddy London novels, word from Elder Signs Press is that they are putting the second London novel, "The Stench of Fresh Air" into production even as you read this. This is to be immediately followed by the novel "The Sleep That Rescues," a brand new London adventure which takes place between the old second and third novels. Advance word says it features the introduction of a new character, the Pirate Queen, an international thief who concerns herself with antiquities. Somehow she crosses paths with the London Agency at a time of interdimensional chaos with apocalyptic doom for all as a possible consequence. The first completely new, never-before-seen London novel in over a decade? Hey, we’re ready for that!

Any of you that have gotten to hear any of the selections on the "Misery & Pity" CD know that audio publisher Audiorealms did a tremendous job on the five stories they put together for that disc. Well, they must have sold a bunch of them, because word has just reached us that they have signed a deal with CJ to produce all the Teddy London novels on CD. Apparently production has already begun on the first of the books, "The Things That Are Not There," and word is it will be ready for the public before the fall.

Big news today for all the collectors out there. Dark Regions, the well-respected publishers of many a fancy, limited edition hardback, has chosen to do a collection of our boy CJ’s stories. We don’t have a lot of news right now, but we do know the book will have at least 20 of CJ’s stories. Some will, of course, be classics, but the publisher promises at least two new ones. Also, long-time CJ cover artist Ben Fogletto has been tapped for a new color cover, as well as an illustrated back cover, and a minimum of four interior illustrations as well. What the limit will be on the number of editions, or anything else about the book, we haven’t been told yet. Still, it’s something a lot of Henderson fans have been waiting for. Guess the wait is almost over!

More news on Brooklyn Knights. It seems we might actually see something of Professor Knight in 2008. Apparently DAW Books is putting together another anthology in their Fantastic series. CJ, of course, had stories in both Elf Fantastic and Furry Fantastic. Now, for City Fantastic, editor Jean Rabe (who reportedly loved CJ’s story for Furry which she put together) has asked our boy to not only submit a tale, but to make it one about Knight. Now, of course, CJ just has to write it, while writing the first novel ... and get them both in before the deadline ... and get them both approved ... oh, the life of a writer. Keep watching this space for more details as we receive them.

Another issue of "Tales of the Talisman" is out, and our boy CJ graces the pages once more. The interesting thing here is, it’s his first foray into poetry since his college days. Hummmm, first poem he writes in over thirty years and it sells. I guess maybe there is a market for poetry after all. Oh, and the rest of the issue is packed with great stuff as well.

And, here it is, the final, finished Fogletto masterpiece for CJ’s "To Battle Beyond." The book is supposed to be ready soon. Frankly, it can’t be soon enough for us, but then, we are a bit prejudiced here.

Wow--Old ESP is just churning them out one after another. This time, it’s the long awaited sequel to their international hit, "Horrors Beyond," aptly titled, "Horrors Beyond 2." Of course, CJ was in the first, and he’s present once more. Editor Jones has again placed our boy in the center of the book, this time because while everyone else went for the darkest horror they could manage, our lad decided his tale of global destruction had to be a comedy. Oh, that wacky CJ ...

"High Seas Cthulhu" is on sale. Wow--did you ever think anyone would go so far to capitalize on the mythos craze? Pirates and Lovecraft? From any other publisher it would seem a thing of desperation or just plain crass commercialism, but when it’s Elder Signs Press, you know it has to be good. And indeed, as easily as a book of tales of open water evil could get repetitious, this one flows nicely (no pun intended). CJ’s tale comes in the middle of this one, but editor/publisher Dr. William J. Jones told us that was because CJ was the only person to pull off a high seas story that took place on land, and that the book really needed a change of pace story to break things up. Ha--our boy to the rescue again.

BIG NEWS! We’ve been sitting on this for a while, mainly because a) it wasn’t absolutely official and b) CJ swore he’d kill us if we jinxed things for him. But, now it can be told--our boy has signed a two book deal to begin producing a new series for the fine folks at Tor!

The series is tentatively called "Brooklyn Knights." The deal was brokered by master book series packager and stellar editorial genius Brian M. Thomsen and will center around Professor Piers Knight, a director at the Brooklyn Museum, and a fellow with a talent for the supernatural. And that seems about all we can say at the moment. This deal was apparently in the works for over two years, and with the glacial pace some projects move at, God only knows when we’ll see the first novel. But, it’s a new series of novels for our boy, which means more fun for all of us.

More fun from Moonstone. With the success of their various Kolchak books, and other anthologies such as their Spider and Phantom books, they’ve decided to start bringing their popular Moonstone Monsters comic line to print. First up, "Werewolves: Dead Moon Rising." Of course, we mention this because our boy CJ has a story in there. It’s another tale from his award-winning "Challenge of the Unknown" series, and it’s another gem, if we do say so ourselves. Also, besides its nifty Dave Dorman cover, each story in this one received its own interior illustration from Ken Wolak--nice job, fellas.

And, if werewolves weren’t enough, the fun folks at Two Backed Books have put together "Flesh & Iron," a collection of four vampires and bondage novellas. Of course, our boy is in there with a terrific tale o’terror where psychometrist Lai Wan faces off with a vampire out to bring flaming ruin to most of the Eastern Seaboard of America just for kicks. Great stories by John French, Patrick Thomas and Jaunty John Sunseri as well.

Jan 11 , 2008

More news on CJ’s story from "Breach the Hull." It seems his characters Rocky and Noodles from his story "Shore Leave" have been causing something of a stir. So much, in fact, that he was asked to joint another deep space anthology, and to bring his wise guy sailors along. He did, submitting a story entitled "Space Pirate Cookies." The editor has reportedly taken it. Now it’s up to the publisher to make the final yea or nay. Watch this space for further reports.

Another CJ sighting on the other side of the Atlantic. Seems the fine folks at Rainfall Books and JnJ Publications, who put out the new collection "Cthulhu’s Creatures" simply couldn’t imagine the book without a tale from our lad within its nicely illustrated covers. He’s in there with a lot of top mythos talent, everyone from Robert M. Price and Stanley C. Sargent to Tim Curran and Joseph S. Pulver Sr. The book isn’t available in the states, but it’s still nice to know it’s out there.

Word is there’s another fabulous Ben Fogletto cover in the future for our boy. It’s supposed to be for CJ’s latest novel, "To Battle Beyond." The premise takes HP Lovecraft’s Inspector Legrasse, the Black Bat, one of the characters that helped inspire Batman, and everyone’s favorite pulp pin-up girl, the Domino Lady, along with a few fun cameos, pitting them all against the Japanese Empire in the opening days of WWII. It’s pure pulp excitement, and rumor has it the book will have a bonus Black Bat/Mythos story by CJ just to keep the fun going. Only time will tell. Here, we can’t wait to see the cover, or the book.
